This award was begun by Dr. John Beals to recognize outstanding research and publications by members of the DCMS. The articles submitted will be judged by the Beals Award Committee for quality of methods and study design, writing style and data presentation, new ideas and information presented, and overall quality. Submissions will be considered in the three categories listed below. All winners will receive a plaque, with the winner in the Original Investigation category also receiving $300.
Articles submitted for the Beals Award must have been written by a member of the Duval County Medical Society, based on work done in Duval County. They must have been published between January 2008 and December 2008 in a peer reviewed periodical listed in
the MEDLINE journal database.This award was begun by Dr. Shahla Masood in 1997, in honor of her mother G. Shahin. The G. Shahin Award is designed to recognize and encourage the research efforts of residents and fellows in training in Jacksonville. Awards will be considered in the three categories listed below. All winners will receive a plaque, with the winner in the Original Investigation category also receiving $250.
Articles submitted for the G. Shahin Award must have a resident or fellow in training in Duval County as the lead author. The majority of the work must have been done while the resident or fellow was training in Duval County. They must have been published between January 2008 and December 2008 in a peer reviewed periodical listed in the MEDLINE journal database.
Clinical Observation — These articles will be retrospective reviews of clinical data and case reports.
Review Articles — These articles could be of an historical nature, ethical discussions, medical business articles, legal issues, or reviews of literature.
Articles published in both electronic and print journals are eligible for consideration. However if an article is published electronically / online in one year, and published in print the following year (or vice versa), authors can only submit the article for consideration ONCE.

The deadline for submitting articles is August 7, 2009
