DCMS Committees
The following list outlines current DCMS Committees and their charges. If you are interested in serving on any of these committees or learning
more about their functions, you can contact Patti Ruscito at
admin@dcmsonline.org or call her at
355-6561, ext. 104. Your time and
talents are needed! It is only
through strong member participation that the DCMS can have an effective voice in
the local medical community.
Beals/Shahin Awards Committee: The
Beals/Shahin Awards Committee reviews entries by DCMS members of medical

annual Beals Award. The committee
also reviews articles written by physicians training in
Duval County to determine the
winners of the annual G. Shahin Awards.
Bioterrorism, Disaster Response And Homeland Security Committee:
This committee works with the Disaster Planning Office of the Duval
County Health Department, City of Jacksonville Emergency Preparedness Division, Naval Hospital Jacksonville, FCCJ and other organizations to help
coordinate physician assistance during a natural, biological, chemical or
nuclear disaster.
Bylaws Committee: The Bylaws
Committee is responsible for reviewing the DCMS Bylaws and recommending proposed
changes to the Bylaws to the Board, who in turn recommends the changes to the

Clay, Nassau, Putnam and St. JohnsCounties. The committee also oversees the production of the Duval County Medical
Society Directory. The committee
secures CME credit for scientific articles published in the journal, when
appropriate.
Judicial Committee: The Judicial
Committee serves a two-fold purpose:
(1) It is responsible for study and action on all alleged misconduct and ethical
offenses involving DCMS members; and (2) it is responsible for reviewing and
facilitating the settlement of misunderstandings and complaints filed against
DCMS members by their patients.
The Committee’s role in reviewing patient complaints is to facilitate the
settlement of misunderstandings in hope of preventing the complaint to proceed
to litigation or Board of Medicine review. This service is provided to all DCMS members as a membership benefit.

Committee is responsible for recruitment, follow-up and retention of members.
Northeast Florida
