Purpose:

To meet the unmet community need regarding medically based education and information concerning autism spectrum disorder (ASD)

An increase in physician knowledge regarding current evidence-based approaches to ASD, serving to enhance physician practice and patient understanding

Northeast Florida and community pediatricians, family physicians, general surgeons, pediatric/adult neurosurgeons, neurologists, hospitalists, psychiatrists, psychologists, immunologists, critical care physicians, emergency medicine physicians, gastroenterologists, geneticists, obstetricians and gynecologists, internists, neonatologists, otolaryngologists, pediatric anesthesiologists, pediatric/adult allergists, physician assistants and advanced registered nurse practitioners

LECTURE OBJECTIVES

1. To have an understanding of the sex ratio in different neurodevelopmental disorders

2. To appreciate some of the factors that influence the sex ratio particularly in Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD)

3. To explain the female protective effect as a possible explanation of the sex ratio in ASD
