A New Face, But Same Quality

Niranjan Kissoon, M.D., Editor

I salute Michael Bernhardt, M.D., who has been Chief Editor of Jacksonville Medicine for the past three years. Dr. Bernhardt worked tirelessly in molding the journal to its present elite position among society journals. It is not often that someone can step aside from their handiwork with the satisfaction that they have accomplished all of their goals. Dr. Bernhardt leaves with all his goals realized; we are now in an unenviable position to match his standard of excellence. We are grateful however, that he will continue to be a voice of reason and a sage presence on the Editorial Board. On behalf of the entire board and members of the Duval County Medical Society, I would like to extend our extreme gratitude to Dr. Bernhardt for a task well done.

The Editorial Board will strive to fulfill the needs of those we serve by introducing some features that we hope will continue to enhance the reputation of the journal and increase its relevance in context and content. To do this we will present special articles featuring topics of interest written by the medical pioneers in our community. These articles are intended to educate from whence we came, put it in perspective, where we are now, and enlighten us as to our future. I would also like to encourage correspondence and vigorous exchanges by members of the society in the Letter to the Editor section. We also intend to highlight unique achievement of members of our society, mostly local, but also in the larger medical world. One of the attractive features of the journal is its value in providing continuing medical education and CME credits for its readership. This we will continue to do.

The editor or the editorial board alone cannot achieve these goals. We need the commitment, input and enthusiastic participation from all members. In the past few years, I have been constantly amazed by the insight, achievements and contributions of members of our society. I urge you to share some of those gifts with the journal, as it will enrich us all. I therefore look forward to your enthusiastic participation and ideas. The journal can only be as good we make it.
