About the Cover
Electrophysiology sparked the imagination of the journal’s
editorial staff to think of electricity and thus lightning. Since Australian
photographer Michael Bath has “a passion for thunderstorms – in particular
severe thunderstorms and lightning,” his 1990 photograph of a lightning
strike in Ballina, New South Wales (NSW) seemed an appropriate choice for
the cover of this journal issue. It symbolizes cutting-edge technology such
as intracardiac defibrillators (ICD), cardiac resynchronization therapy
(CRT) and intracardiac ablation used to treat the most serious cardiac
diseases. For more of Michael Bath's photos, visit
