Dr. Gordon Ira Captures
Unique Shot of Polar Bears
Gordon Ira, MD, a retired cardiologist and a talented photographer,
took the photo of a mother polar bear and her two cubs from the open
side door of a minivan. As Dr. Ira recalls, “The bears were very
close and it didn’t look dangerous at all because I was absorbed in
taking the picture. But the park ranger who came up to my van was
all excited and demanded that I close the door ‘Immediately.’” Dr.
Ira saw the bears on a trip to Churchill, Manitoba. It was a cold
and snowy day. The mother bear was looking at a kennel where husky
dogs were being fed. She probably wanted to get some dog food for
her hungry cubs. This is the second cover photograph by Dr. Ira that
the journal has printed. Thank you, Dr. Ira, for sharing your
talent! (see www.gordonira.com
