DCMS Supports Military Physicians at FMA Annual Meeting

At the recent FMA Annual Meeting, a DCMS sponsored resolution was adopted that provides complimentary membership dues for military physician members who are mobilized in support of a contingency operation during the year in which they serve.  The DCMS approved similar policy prior to the meeting as a tribute to our brave, local physicians who have been deployed in recent years.  With DCMS military members paying reduced, annual dues of $50, we encourage members to promote membership to their peers in the military.  Furthermore, existing members are urged to notify the DCMS and FMA if deployed. It is certainly with a great deal of pride that we do the same for those who serve and protect our great country.

Annual DCMS / Navy Meeting – September 25

The annual DCMS / Navy meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, September 25, from 6:00 – 9:00 PM at the NAS Jacksonville Officers Club. The program will include a panel discussion of medical professionals who have been recently deployed.  Click here for more details and registration information. Make your reservations today!

Workshop on Evaluating and Choosing an Electronic Health Record System

The Florida Medical Association and the DCMS are sponsoring a free workshop for physicians and their office staff on Learning How to Select and Purchase an Electronic Health Record for your practice.  The workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 2, from 6-8 PM in the FPIC boardroom. If you have been considering purchasing an electronic medical records system, this workshop is for you!  Click here for more details (PDF brochure).

Become a Jacksonville Sports Medicine Member!

DCMS physicians who are active or interested in sports medicine are encouraged to join the Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program (JSMP).  Membership in the JSMP supports our area’s student athletes, and benefits your practice with continuing education and referral opportunities.  Click here for more details and a membership application form.

NPI News

The National Provider Identification (NPI) Registry is now available online at the following website: https://nppes.cms.hhs.gov/NPPES/NPIRegistryHome.do

Physicians or practices may wish to search the NPI registry to verify that their information is accurate.  Practices can also lookup NPI numbers for physician referrals and billing purposes.

The AMA is alerting physicians that Medicare must be able to match a physician's appropriate PIN to his or her correct National Provider Identifier (NPI)—and may reject claims if a match can't be made. Prior to September 4, most Medicare carriers permitted claims to process through their computer systems even if an appropriate match between the physician's NPI number and their old legacy billing number(s) couldn't be made. However, as of September 4, Medicare has started to "turn on” the edits that previously allowed these claims to process.  We strongly encourage physicians to immediately check with their billing office to determine what, if any, error reason codes have been returned over the summer. These codes could indicate an NPI mismatch in the Medicare system. Physicians who use a billing clearinghouse should check to ensure that the NPI error reason code or similar error reason codes are not being stripped off of their claims.
