Half of MD Licenses To Expire January 31, 2008

License renewal packets were mailed Thursday, October 5th to those MDs whose license expires on January 31, 2008.  If you do not receive your packet by October 15th, call Licensure Services at 850-487-3284.  Click here for detailed information about the renewal process including the latest online renewal process.

Member Benefits that Count!

CompOptions has a Florida Worker’s Compensation Insurance program designed specifically for medical societies.  As a DCMS member, you can participate in an exclusive dividend plan which can impact your practice’s bottom line.  By participating in the County Medical Society Program, your practice is grouped together with other practices into one single large group, with dividends based on the group’s performance. One local practice recently received a dividend check of over $17,000!  For more information, contact CompOptions at 1-888-207-4215 and let them know you are a member of the DCMS.

Looking to hire a physician?  Remember to visit the DCMS Employment Connection, a physician recruitment tool that allows practices to identify candidates from a world-wide database developed by JobTarget.  Local physicians can post their CV and practice preferences on the DCMS Employment Connection to allow local practices to recruit physicians.  Rates are heavily discounted for DCMS members, especially when compared to recruitment firms that charge thousands of dollars for similar services.

Deadline is October 19 to file for funds under BCBS settlement

Please note, you may be entitled to a share of the recent $131 billion Blue Cross Blue Shield (BCBS) settlement of class action multi-district litigation brought by the nation's physicians.  To determine any settlement due to your practice, you must file a complete claim form by October 19. The AMA makes it easy – simply visit http://www.ama-assn.org/go/settlements for full details and the claim form.  Please remember: those eligible for funds include physicians, physician groups or physician organizations who provided covered services to any individual enrolled in or covered by BCBS plans at any time between May 22, 1999, and May 31, 2007.

Managed Care Abuse Cases Needed

The FMA needs members' help for the upcoming session.  Specific examples of physicians who have been victimized by a silent PPO network, who have been abused by the 30 month look-back period, and who have had adverse experiences with insurers not honoring assignment are needed.  If you have a situation whereby your practice was negatively impacted by any of these abuses, please email me at jmillson@dcmsonline.org.
