Get Ready for the 2009 Florida Legislative Session

The 2009 Florida Legislative Session begins March 3, 2009!  The Florida Office of Legislative Services is looking for additional physicians to participate in the legislature's Doctor of the Day program. The legislature needs two physicians for each day of the legislative session, one for the House of Representatives and one for the Senate. DCMS Bioterrorism, Disaster Response and Homeland Security Committee Presentation

The Duval County Medical Society (DCMS) is pleased to announce that Dr. Fred Ruben, who serves as a consultant for sanofi pasteur, will be coming to Jacksonville to give a presentation on Vaccine Preparation for the Next Pandemic at the March meeting of the DCMS Bioterrorism, Disaster Response and Homeland Security Committee.  The presentation will be held on Tuesday, March 31, 2008, 6:00 pm, at the Urban Resource Center, Florida Community College at Jacksonville (FCCJ), 601 W. State Street, Room 103, Jacksonville, FL 32202.  Dr. Ruben's talk is intended to provide an update on pandemic vaccines.  We invite and encourage all physicians to attend this informative presentation. AMA President Elect’s Visit to Jacksonville

AMA President Elect, James Rohack, MD will be visiting Jacksonville April 27-28, 2009.  Plan to attend the general membership dinner meeting on Monday, April 27 at Epping Forest Yacht Club.  Dr. Rohack will also be visiting several of our medical institutions while in town and participating in the Quality & Safety Forum at UNF (see details below). Quality & Safety Forum on April 28 at UNF

On Tuesday, April 28, the UNF Center for Global Health and Medical Diplomacy will present a Quality & Safety Forum which will include James Rohack, MD, AMA President-Elect as a featured guest speaker. His topic will be the Lessons Learned from the Quality Journey.  Carolyn Clancy, MD, Director of the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality will also be featured with her topic being Creating a Culture of Quality and Safety: Community-wide Improvements.  Local physicians and hospital administrators will also be participating in the forum panel discussions. Focus on Neurological Issues: A Town Hall Meeting

The Florida NeuroAlliance and the Florida Society of Neurology will be hosting a town hall meeting on Saturday, February 28 from 10 AM – 3:00 PM.  The meeting is an attempt to start an open dialogue among patients/carepartners, nonprofits, physicians and legislators/government officials.  Moderator for the meeting will be Daniel Kantor, MD, President-Elect of the Florida Society of Neurology and DCMS Board Member.  Immediate Past-President, Glenn Knox, MD, JD will participate in one of the panel discussions.  Click here for more details and RSVP information.
