A Letter from the Florida Department of Health in Duval County:
Dear Medical Providers:
On March 24, 1882, Dr. Robert Koch announced that he had discovered the cause of Tuberculosis (TB), and this led the way for diagnosing and curing TB. March 24th has been designated World TB Day recognizing this special day in both medicine and science.
The theme of World TB Day 2016 is "End TB."
Although TB in the United States has significantly lower numbers compared to developing countries, TB is still a major public health concern in our community. In comparison to other counties in Florida, Duval County ranks number six in the number of TB cases. This means that our current efforts to find and treat latent TB infection and TB disease are not sufficient. Misdiagnosis of TB still exists and health care professionals often do not "think TB”.
Therefore, there is still a need to maintain adequate resources and partnerships toward TB awareness and stopping TB in our community. In that spirit, the TB/ Refugee Program of the Florida Department of Health in Duval County, along with the collaboration of the Jax Health Matters program of the University of Florida, would like to partner with medical providers in Duval County in order to bring awareness to TB in our community. We have assembled a toolkit that contains education and quick reference materials and social marketing materials for medical providers in the community.
The toolkit includes the following:
DOH-Duval Referral to TB Program Guidelines
LTBI and TB Disease
TB Q & A
TB Skin Test Fact Sheet
Helpful websites and applications:
Southeastern National Tuberculosis Center (SNTC)
SNTC App for Android and iPhone - Stay up to date with the latest TB news, Training, Webinars, and Products from the SNTC:
