St. Vincent's HealthCare has announced its new President and CEO. Michael H. Schatzlein, MD, MBA, FACHE is a heart transplant surgeon. Until recently he was the President/CEO of Saint Thomas Health in Nashville.

The follow announcement was sent from St. Vincent's HealthCare:

The Search Committee for a new leader for St. Vincent’s HealthCare has recommended the selection of Michael H. Schatzlein, MD, MBA, FACHE, as the new President/Chief Executive Officer of St. Vincent’s HealthCare.

Dr. Schatzlein, a heart transplant surgeon, was the President/CEO of Saint Thomas Health in Nashville from June 2010 until last month. He will continue to serve as the Senior Vice President, Ascension Health/Group Ministry Operating Executive, providing strategic advice and guidance to the Ministry Market Executives in Indiana and Tennessee.

Donnie Romine will return to his previous role as St. Vincent’s Healthcare’s System Chief Operating Officer and President of St. Vincent’s Medical Center Riverside. Mike will assume his Jacksonville duties after Labor Day.

Mike is a seasoned executive with humility, passion for exceptional care, and a keen sense of humor. “The more I learn about St. Vincent’s, the more impressed I’ve become,” said Mike. “The Ministry has a great reputation, committed Board and donors, and associates who are caring and capable. I look forward to getting to know the Jacksonville/North Florida and South Georgia area and senior leadership as we work together to fulfill St. Vincent’s Mission as part of One Ascension.”

“Mike is the right person to lead St. Vincent’s HealthCare as our national health ministry works in a more integrated way to transform healthcare,” said Patricia Maryland, Dr.PH, President, Healthcare Operations and Chief Operating Officer of Ascension Health. “He has an exceptional track record of guiding his teams and associates to support the delivery of compassionate, personalized care within complex markets, in part by developing partnerships with physicians and other caregivers. His passion for quality is reflected in Mike’s service as the Founding Chair for MissionPoint Health Partners, the only ACO in Tennessee to share in savings from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services during 2014.”

Mike and his wife, Liz, a broadcast journalist, live in Nashville, and will also establish a residence in Jacksonville. Their 26-year-old son, Derek, is pursuing a doctorate in computer science at Purdue University in Indiana. Another son, Michael, is an attorney and director of information technology at an Indianapolis law firm, while their daughter, Tricia, practices law in Boston. Mike is very proud of his six grandchildren.

“This has been a most deliberative and reflective process over the last several months,” said Sidney Simmons, St. Vincent’s HealthCare’s Board Chairman. “Speaking for our Board, we could not be more excited to have Mike join St. Vincent’s. We know you will share our excitement concerning this successful conclusion.”

“We also appreciate and thank Donnie Romine for his exceptional contributions over the past five months as interim President and CEO.”
