Happy (Belated!) Doctors’ Day!

The DCMS joins together with the DCMS Alliance, hospitals, and other medical organizations in honoring all physicians for your unselfish dedication to the profession of medicine. Happy Doctors’ Day!  Doctors Day is celebrated annually on March 30 in communities throughout the United States. Doctors’ Day commemorates the first use of anesthetic for surgery by Dr. Crawford Long in 1842. I personally thank you for all you do on behalf of Northeast Florida’s citizens and your support of organized medicine as a whole.

You are invited to a Town Hall Meeting & Doctors' Day Celebration on April 7

In honor of Doctor’s Day, the DCMS and DCMS Alliance invite you to a Town Hall Meeting & Celebration on Monday, April 7 from 6:00 - 8:30 PM at the newly renovated Florida Museum of Medicine and Public Health. DCMS President Dr. Glenn Knox, and FMA President Dr. Karl Altenburger, want to discuss issues important to the local practice of medicine with you … our local physicians. In celebration of Doctors' Day, a reception & tour of the Museum will follow the meeting. Click here for more details & a reservation form!

Legislative Update

The FMA was successful last week in passing its priority managed care legislation, SB 1012 by Sen. Don Gaetz, out of the Senate Health Regulation Committee with only one negative vote. The bill's next stop will be the Senate Health Policy Committee tomorrow, April 1. For a summary of the FMA’s managed care bill, click here. Also last week, the PRN Sovereign Immunity bill was unanimously passed out of committees in both the House and Senate. For a summary of the PRN Sovereign Immunity bill, click here. The DCMS will keep you informed of this and other legislative issues as the need arises. If you have any questions or concerns about legislative issues, contact Jay Millson via email or phone 355-6561 ext. 105.
