Three more locally transmitted cases of the Zika virus were reported Wednesday in Miami Beach, as the state's overall number of cases reached 986, according to information posted on the Florida Department of Health website. In addition to the three Miami Beach cases, the state reported three new "travel-related" cases, which involve people being infected elsewhere and bringing the virus into the state. Those travel-related cases were reported in Clay, Miami-Dade and Orange counties, the department website said. In all, 721 of the 986 Zika cases are classified as travel-related. The mosquito-borne Zika is particularly dangerous to pregnant women because it can cause severe birth defects. As of Wednesday, 103 of Florida's reported Zika infections involved pregnant women.
