The Duval County Medical Society held its DCMS Inaugural Ball & 164th Annual Meeting on December 2, 2016.

Nearly 200 DCMS members and guests gathered at The Museum & Gardens for the annual black-tie affair. Following a cocktail and exhibitor hour, members participated in a business meeting featuring several special guests and the official inauguration of the 2017 DCMS President.

Dr. Sunil Joshi, 2016 DCMS President, kicked off the evening with his Presidential remarks regarding the successes of the Medical Society throughout the year. He addressed four areas in which the DCMS and organized medicine work for physicians: Legislative Efforts, Advocacy, Education, and Leadership.

During a special presentation, longtime Duval County Medical Society employee Patricia Ruscito was presented with a plaque for her outstanding dedication and service to the organization. Ruscito retired in May after working for the DCMS for more than 24 years.

The evening continued with remarks from Dr. Todd Sack, 2016 DCMS Foundation President, regarding the Mission First campaign launched earlier this year. The DCMS Foundation is working on three initiatives: 904 Mission One Million, a Physician Wellness Program, and the Future of Healthcare Conference. Dr. Sack discussed the benefits of each of the programs and explained how DCMS members can get involved.

Members also heard an update from Dr. Alan Harmon on the work of the American Medical Association and from Dr. David Becker on the Florida Medical Association.

Several DCMS members were recognized during the business meeting for outstanding service in 2016.

Johnson Foy took the oath of office with help from her husband, Lamont Foy. She then thanked Dr. Joshi for his year of service and presented him with a plaque.

In her acceptance speech, Dr. Johnson Foy shared a personal story about her childhood struggles and her desire to achieve a better life for herself. She inspired her fellow DCMS members to reach out to the young people around them and encourage them to pursue their dreams.
