This coming Friday, Feb. 17, UF Health Jacksonville will be honoring a JSO officer for his use of a life-saving technique that our trauma department is now promoting throughout the community and parts of the state. The nationwide initiative is called “Stop the Bleed” and promotes the proper use of tourniquets to keep those seriously injured stable and alive while being transported to emergency care, in this case TraumaOne. JSO has been using the technique to help save lives for some time, but we wanted to use this opportunity to get the community involved. We are currently teaching Stop the Bleed instructional classes to nonmedical first responders, including the public, to help save lives.
I’ve attached a news release with details and information. The event is at 9:30 amthis Friday in our clinical center. There will be JSO personnel along with TraumaOne representatives there, and we will also be able to show you the equipment and techniques that we’d like the public to be aware of in case they are put in an emergency situation.
