The Duval County Medical Society, working together with practice managers and physicians from around the First Coast, were able to achieve a big win surrounding the VA Choice Program.
As you may recall, last June we asked membership about payment delays and prior authorization struggles surrounding the VA Choice program. Several of you shared your very specific experiences of eight-hour hold times, and unpaid claims more than twelve months old. We shared that information with U.S. Congressman John Rutherford, who vowed to help with the situation.
Following our lead, physicians from around the Sunshine State began sharing their experiences with the Congressman. Just this month, the VA announced sweeping new changes in the payment to community providers, calling for a rapid ramp-up of claims processing times with a goal of 90% of all claims processed in fewer than 30 days by April.

This effort would not have been possible without the efforts of so many practice administrators, physicians and staff. Our Practice Administrator Roundtable is a forum to discuss issues just like this and meets as needed. If you our your practice administrator would like to be involved in future Roundtable meetings, please let me know.
