Jacksonville, FL, (March 6, 2018) – Memorial Hospital is growing and will soon be able to accommodate more patients. The hospital will soon begin building 36 new private patient rooms on the 5th floor of its West tower.
The 27,688 square foot unit will house 36 additional patient beds for Medical/Surgical patients, bringing Memorial Hospital’s total number of licensed beds to 454. The five floor-West tower was built in 2009. Since then, the hospital has utilized four of the five floors for patients. The fifth floor was built as shell space, designed and designated for future expansion.
“We know there’s a high demand for our healthcare services as we’re regularly exceeding our capacity expectations,” said Chief Operating Officer Cory Darling. “Being able to accommodate more patients will allow us to continue to carry out our mission and provide high-quality, healthcare services to the people in our community who continually entrust us with their healthcare needs.”
In addition to the expansion, new jobs will be created to care for the additional number of patients.
Construction will begin in April with the 5th floor tentatively scheduled to open by the end of the year. This project coincides with the hospital’s current 23M ER expansion project, also designed to meet the growth we’re experiencing in the region.
