AMA Leadership Visit

Mark your calendars for May 19-20, 2008 for AMA Speaker of the House Jeremy A. Lazarus, MD’s visit to the Jacksonville area.  There will be a dinner celebration on Monday evening, May 19 at Epping Forest Yacht Club, so mark your calendars and plan to attend.  Invitations were mailed last week, but here are a few of the details or download the registration flyer (PDF).

Obesity and Non-Communicable Diseases – Community Forum

A community forum entitled Obesity & Non-Communicable Diseases:  Addressing The Epidemic Through Science, Fitness, And Behavior Modification will be held on Tuesday, May 20  at UNF’s University Center. This forum is sponsored by the Duval County Medical Society, the UNF Center for Global Health and Medical Diplomacy and the Duval County Health Department.  Priority registration is available for DCMS members and there is no charge.  CME credit is available.  Click here for details and registration information.

Save Medicare Act of 2008 – National Legislative Update

On July 1, Medicare will slash physician payments 10.6 percent. Time is running out. Call your members of Congress and let them know how important the Save Medicare Act of 2008 (S. 2785) is for seniors and their doctors. The bill would prevent the 10.6 percent cut in Medicare physician payments planned for July 1, retain current payment levels for the remainder of 2008 and enact a 1.8 percent increase for 2009. Call the AMA Grassroots Hotline at (800) 833-6354 to be connected to your members of Congress and urge them to co-sponsor and pass S. 2785. Download the AMA’s Medicare Physician Payment Action Kit. The DCMS will keep you informed of this and other legislative issues as the need arises. If you have any questions or concerns about legislative issues, contact Jay Millson via email or phone 355-6561 ext. 105.
