In this Issue:
Health System Reform
The Duval County Medical
Society supports meaningful health system reform and recognizes the quickly
evolving Congressional debates surrounding the issue. As mentioned last week, traditionally, the
DCMS follows the lead of the Florida Medical Association in legislative
issues. The FMA released this
statement regarding their position on H.R. 3200 last week, prior to their
annual meeting where this was a hotly debated topic.
The DCMS Board of Directors
is meeting Monday night, August 3, and in consultation with the delegates to
the FMA, will finalize the DCMS position on this issue. Details will be communicated to the DCMS membership
on Tuesday via email, fax, and on the website.
Thank you for your patience as this quickly evolving push for meaningful
healthcare reform continues. You can
read the advanced copies of the President’s Message and Editorial about this
topic from the forthcoming issue of Northeast
Florida Medicine by clicking on the links below:

The upcoming Florida Chapter
of the
Red Flag Rules implementation deadline extended to
November 1, 2009
The Red Flag Rule
implementation deadline was extended by the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to
November 1, 2009. FTC staff will
redouble its efforts to educate small business and other entities about
compliance with the “Red Flags” rule and provide additional resources on what
they must do to comply. These steps are
consistent with the House Appropriations Committee request that the FTC defer
enforcement and minimize the burdens of the Rule on healthcare providers and
small businesses with a low risk of identity theft problems. Click here for details
and resources to assist your practice, including a customizable Word
document that details an appropriate policy for healthcare providers.
