Community Health Outreach has been providing services for 25 years, operating a primary medical care and emergency dental treatment facility administered through the Access to Health Care Act, food pantry, and pregnancy center located in Duval County, Florida. All services are provided by volunteers; general volunteers, doctors, dentists, nurses, hygienists and other medical and dental professionals. The free Healing Hands Clinic serves adults, age 18 and older residing in Duval County. Eligible patients are uninsured with a family income at or below 200% of the federal poverty guidelines for medical and 150% for dental services. The primary target is the working uninsured or those who are not eligible for any other resource (i.e. Medicaid or Shands Jacksonville Hospital Card). Many medical patients require primary care and education to manage chronic conditions (related to the illness as well as nutrition, exercise, and medication use).

CHO opened its new 6,000 square foot, Outreach Center located at 5126 Timuquana Road in Jacksonville, FL on May 21, 2015. The new facility more than doubles the former clinic, and includes, 6 new dental stations, 6 new medical exam rooms, a large waiting room, modern dental lab and sterilization rooms. CHO currently sees 100-120 medical patients a month, 20-25 of those are new patients. CHO is in need of healthcare professional volunteers, especially doctors.

CHO is looking for a doctor that is willing to volunteer 2-3 hours once a week or twice a month and would possibly be willing to fill the position of the Volunteer Medical Director in the future. CHO is also looking for doctors of all specialties that are willing to donate 2-3 hours once a month.

As a volunteer provider you will be covered under sovereign immunity and will gain continuing education credits. Those who volunteer 80 hours per year may be eligible to receive a waiver on their licensing fees. If you would like more information about volunteering, please contact Bernice Mauras at or (904) 573-1333 ext. 106.
